COURSE OVERVIEW

Stagecraft Academy introduces students to the practical skills behind live performances and events. The course focuses on the core craft of sound and lighting, giving students hands-on experience with the tools, techniques, and teamwork used backstage in real productions.

Sound

The sound component covers the fundamentals of live audio, from setting up a basic system to running sound during a performance.

Learners are introduced to:

  • Sound system basics and signal flow

  • Microphones, speakers, and mixing desks

  • Simple mixing techniques for music and speech

  • Safe equipment handling and basic troubleshooting

  • The role of sound during rehearsals and live shows

Lighting

The lighting component explores how light is used to support visibility, mood, and storytelling on stage.

Learners are introduced to:

  • The purpose of stage lighting

  • Different types of lights and their uses

  • Colour, intensity, and basic lighting positions

  • Introductory lighting control and cue operation

  • Safe working practices

Working backstage

Sound and lighting are taught as connected crafts, reflecting how real productions work. Stagecraft Academy is ideal for students curious about music, performance, technology, or creative work — no prior experience required.
